Abstract:
Farmers around the world face the challenge of producing enough food while protecting the environment and securing their livelihoods. Integrated farming systems, which bring together crops, livestock, fish and horticulture, offer a way to meet these challenges in a balanced and efficient manner. Livestock often take a central role, providing milk, meat and eggs for family nutrition, manure to enrich the soil, draught power for farming and a steady source of income. By linking animals with crops and other farm enterprises, resources are recycled naturally, risks are spread and long-term productivity is enhanced. Beyond food production, these systems contribute to soil health, income stability, climate resilience and improved nutrition, highlighting the multifaceted benefits of integrating livestock into sustainable agricultural practices.
