Abstract

Agriculture remains the backbone of rural economies in Assam and the wider North East region of India. The sector contributes significantly to state incomes employment and livelihoods while also being highly vulnerable to climatic and structural shocks. The Current economic landscape of agriculture in Assam and neighbouring North Eastern states presents recent production figures landholding patterns employment shares market and value chain issues and policy priorities. The analysis draws on official state statistics regional databanks and sectoral reports to present evidence based picture of opportunities and constraints for agricultural growth and rural prosperity.
